For me, there’s nothing better than being in front a band<\/strong>, camera in hand and lost in the experience of the moment, while trying to also capture it frame by frame.<\/p>\n

Maybe it takes me back to my wasted youth in rock ‘n’ roll palaces, cowboy saloons<\/a> and down-another-flight clubs. Maybe it reminds me that being adult doesn’t have to mean being safe. Maybe we all just need to be overwhelmed <\/strong>by the moment more. Whatever it is, I love it — so go ahead and pay me.<\/p>\n

These images accompanied a story in Marin Magazine <\/a>by writer Dan Jewett<\/a> — no slouch of a musician himself (become a Hollyhocks fan<\/a>!) — about open mike nights here in Marin.<\/p>\n

The gallery below is from 19 Broadway<\/a> in Fairfax, taken at show put together by keyboardist Jonathan Korty<\/a>, and from Finnegan’s <\/a>in Novato, where K.C. Turner<\/a> sponsors a weekly open mike.
