There is nothing easy in Mexico. There is nothing that once fixed or settled or mended stays that way. The country drifts toward the broken. \u00bfM\u00e9xico, por qu\u00e9 se descompone tanto?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tell me, mi amigo<\/em> Mexico, why do you make education so hard? Why do you take the dreams of smart little girls, the one\u2019s with the highest grades in their classes, and toss them like sacks of plastic soda bottles alongside your pot-holed roads? Why do you make teenage boys drop of out of school and work for casi nada<\/em> selling trinkets on the streets or busting up rocks for their mamas\u2019 ex-lovers? Why is it easier for a teenager to get into the United States than it is into college \u2013 or even high school?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I want to know, mi querido<\/em> Mexico, why do you make poverty so agreeable? I want to know why single mothers who work so much \u2013 ten hours a day, six days a week \u2013 must tell their children que el dinero no alcanza<\/em> for their school supplies as they sit in the single room that is their house and make a bowl of oatmeal that is their dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wonder, mi cielito<\/em> Mexico, why there are pesos for a Mayan train and a freeway to the beach and a paved road en el medio de la nada<\/em>, but there no centavos for water that runs clean from the tap, for toilets that flush, for schools whose task is to educate everyone instead of to weed out those who lack the resources to continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What can you say to me Mexico \u2013 more, what can you do to show the world, Mexico \u2013 that you take these questions seriously and do not use the obvious answers para chingar al pueblo <\/em>every six years?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
